Have you been very, very good?
Do you dare put out your shoes? Will they hold gifts and treats, or perhaps the gentle rebuke of a “switch?”
This evening the children will gather ’round the Advent wreath. Dad will read this evening’s scripture and in the hushed glow of candlelight we’ll sing “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” With breathless anticipation, the children will place their shoes on the hearth, hopeful that St. Nicholas will pay a visit.
He always does, leaving behind holy cards and medals, trinkets and candy. Reminders and rewards for goodness, during this Holy Season of Wait.
