These projects are wonderful! I must learn to tat and soon. My paternal grandmother loved to tat. I use tatting (purchased) often on my smocked/heirloom dresses. 🙂

Thank you for the compliment, Cheryl, though I must admit I’ve never seen anything quite as lovely as the hand-smocked baptismal gown set that you have on Etsy. As a matter of fact, I joined Etsy just yesterday in hopes of leaving you a comment to that effect. What great talent you have! I would love to learn to smock…I’ve only ever known one other person who engaged in that lovely craft. Thanks for visiting!

Hi,
Just found your blog, and I love your tatted dragonfly and butterfly! May I ask you where you got the patterns for them? I am just learning to needle tat, and don’t have much in the way of patterns, but have great love for butterflies.

Hi, Justina!!
Click here for the link for the dragonfly pattern. Here for the link to the butterfly. Both are rather simple…the most difficult aspect of the dragonfly is mastering the split ring technique. Pretty simple, once you get the hang of it! Thanks for visiting!!

I am so out of practice with this kind of stuff. I used to knit, but that seems like ages ago. Life has taken over my calm and quiet side, it seems. But this looks interesting…
Also, Etsy.com seems like a really cool site! God bless!

Those are so beautiful! My dd and I will have to try our hand at tatting. I used to do a lot of embroidery when I was young, but I haven’t done anything like crafty in years.

Hi! Just found your blog and was wondering, is needle tatting similar to using a shuttle? My Mom and Grandmother did alot of tatting with a shuttle. It was the one thing I was never able to get them to teach me, to young or no time. The results look the same.

Welcome to my blog, Naomi!
Needle tatting is, in my opinion, much simpler than shuttle tatting. I never could get the hang of the shuttle…the needle suits me, is easily managed. It might make a difference that I’m a knitter…needles are my thing! Unfortunately, I’ve set aside the tatting needle for too long and really need to get back to it. It’s a very relaxing craft and easy…just two basic stitches to master. And yes, the results are the same! Hope this is helpful…happy tatting!
